PMG’s Head Office in Tauranga has achieved a 4-star NABERSNZ energy rating, demonstrating excellent energy performance for our tenancy. The tenancy will join only eight others with NABERSNZ ratings currently in the country.

It comes off the back of PMG’s first NABERSNZ rated property at 8 Rockridge Avenue, Penrose, Auckland. In October, it received a 4-star NABERSNZ rating, demonstrating the property has excellent energy performance across the whole building.

While NABERSNZ are well known for their whole building ratings, a tenancy rating can be achieved solely for an area a business leases.

This latest achievement reiterates PMG’s commitment to its environmental strategy and business sustainability.

“It’s excellent news to see our space nationally recognised for its energy efficiencies by NABERSNZ,” PMG’s Head of Facilities Management Simi Mukherjee says.

"Constructed in the 1980s, the property lacked efficient building systems such as aircon and lighting. Alongside our strategy of uplifting properties and adopting environmentally sustainable practices the whole building, alongside PMG’s office, has undergone a full makeover between 2020 and 2021.”

“The result is a sophisticated, energy-efficient aircon plant and LED lighting throughout.”

Overall, PMG has big plans for the future of the business in this space, and many new environmentally focused initiatives in the works to improve our properties. We detail much of what we’ve achieved to date and our goals moving forward in our upcoming Sustainability Report, due to launch in January 2022.

What is NABERSNZ?

NABERS is an initiative launched by the Australian Government in 1999 to measure and compare the environmental energy and carbon performance of commercial buildings and tenancies. Building owners in Australia have also had to disclose a NABERS energy rating for their premises at points in all sale and lease documentation since 2010.

The NABERS success in driving improved environmental efficiencies has led Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) to introduce NABERSNZ as a voluntary tool to rate the carbon performance of New Zealand commercial properties, which has been operating since 2013.

A NABERSNZ Certified Rating gives a star rating from 0 to 6, which clearly shows a building or tenancy’s energy performance compared to others.

NABERSNZ ratings are from 0 to 6, and 4-stars represent excellent performance.

The future of our business and properties

As PMG strives to be the Employer of Choice, Funds Manager of Choice, and the Landlord of Choice, we continuously work toward crafting better workplace environments. NABERSNZ is one way that keeps PMG accountable, and other landlords and businesses, while pushing us forward to create workspaces fit for the future.

PMG wants to be ahead of the game by actively working on our portfolio with the intention to get NABERSNZ accreditations on many more of our buildings before it becomes a mandatory requirement.
