2026 is shaping up to be the year of momentum, supported by lower interest rates, renewed capital flows and a stabilising property market.

PMG’s Outlook 2026 events bring together leading economic, investment and property experts to unpack the key themes unfolding from a macro-economic perspective, as well as in commercial property, and how to position capital with confidence.

This year’s Outlook series will explore:

- Interest rates & capital flows: NZ’s Official Cash Rate is expected to remain stimulatory at 2.25–2.75%, supporting refinancing, investment, and consumer spending, while institutional and cross-border capital is returning, supporting deal activity, particularly in industrial and multifamily sectors.

- Commercial property market reset: The commercial market is finding a new equilibrium - stabilising with firmer fundamentals. Industrial/logistics, data centers, and healthcare are outperforming.

- Sustainability & ESG: ESG expectations are shifting from box-ticking to measurable outcomes. Boards and investors are demanding verifiable impact, and AI-powered ESG reporting is becoming standard. Climate adaptation, biodiversity, and regulatory compliance are now central considerations.

- Geopolitics, risk and global market pressures: Geopolitical events will continue to shape markets. We're seeing industrial policy and national security intersecting in energy and AI, while China’s massive industrial capacity and export surplus continue to drive deflationary pressures globally.
