As long-term dairy and beef farm owners who have operated a family farm in Pongakawa near Te Puke for more than 25 years, Craig and Phillipa Garrett had been through the constant ups and downs of farming. They shared more about their investment journey with PMG, going all the way back to 2013.

"We knew we wanted a stable, hands-off investment that could help us ride out fluctuations in income, without the hassle of managing it ourselves. We came across a news article in 2013 that featured PMG’s Chairman Denis McMahon and it sparked a real interest in the organisation. So, we got in touch, and we’ve never looked back really.

More than just a product

"What stood out for us were their personalities, not just the product. We got a sense that PMG’s philosophy and approach to business was really similar to our own, which helped build our confidence that we could grow with the organisation," said Craig.

Over the years, the Garretts expanded their portfolio of investments with PMG and now are invested in four of our funds: Pacific Property Fund Limited, Direct Office Fund, Generation Fund and our Capital Fund.

"It’s been wonderful for us, and our returns have allowed us to leverage against the farm and borrow more for our commercial property side of the business. Having the different funds available was certainly an attractive option, giving us diversification both across and within the different funds. We’ll always own the farm and consider it as our primary business but in terms of our other investments, investing with PMG is certainly a lot easier to manage than the day-to-day farming side of things and it is ultimately helping steer us on a good path towards our retirement plans."

Building long-term relationships

At PMG, we strive to be a long-term investment partner, providing our investors with the opportunity to lean on our more than 30 years in the business to provide them with sound guidance and support.

"There are lots of different commercial products around the place that you could invest in, but if you’ve got the right people driving them, it helps build trust,” says Craig.

"We really appreciate how the team interacts with shareholders, it doesn’t matter whether you’re a small or large shareholder you feel your voice is being heard which is important to a lot of people and particularly for us."
