In 2009, kiwifruit orchardists Dave and Karen were looking for an off-orchard investment which would keep pace with inflation and provide a steady income without increasing their already busy workload.
Having had some experience being invested in a commercial property syndication prior, they decided to stay with commercial property. Through a colleague, they wereintroduced to PMG.
“We visited PMG and were impressed by the investment offering, particularly by the people behind the brand and investment,” says Dave.
“So we initially invested in some of PMG’s funds in the early 2000s and were very happy with how they performed. When we sold our orchard in 2015, we decided to invest more,” says Dave. At that stage PMG was transitioning the structure of its investments from single property syndications to funds structures, and Pacific Property Fund Limited (PPF) was launched.
“We liked the idea of a fund investment model and the additional protections it presented,” said Dave.
“Going from having a stake in one property to a share of multiple properties, with multiple tenants across multiple
geographies in one fund made real sense.
“So I think we were one of the first investors in PPF and it’s the best move we’ve ever made,” he says.
“We are happy to be out of syndications, they’ve passed their use-by date, and I believe the funds investment model is the only way to go in the future too.”
Dave and Karen say they haven’t looked back and have invested further in PMG Generation Fund and some of PMG’s wholesale opportunities over the years.
“Not only has PMG provided us with consistent income, but we have not had to worry about managing a thing, and it has allowed us to retire stress-free and spend more time doing the things we love like caravanning and biking,” says Karen.
When asked what were the main reasons for investing in PMG’s funds? Both Karen and Dave agree its PMG’s commitment to, passion for and experience in commercial property.
“Having an in-house property team who know their properties and tenants has made all the difference to the success of our investments over the years.”
“I consider in commercial property investment the most important thing is that your tenants are happy and their businesses are successful,” says Dave.
“PMG’s performance and track record, alongside their professional and approachable team were big factors in us investing in the first place. You have to be 100% happy with the people who are managing your investment, before you invest. And we’ve been happy with PMG for the last 14 years.”
