Investment

Strong, lasting relationships are at PMG’s core and we pride ourselves on the trust we’ve developed with investors over the last 30 years. For the Horton family, a referral from a trusted neighbour secured their decision to invest with PMG.

Jacob and Sheree Horton are proud Bay of Plenty locals. For the last 14 years, they’ve owned a dairy farm in the heart of the region at Pongakawa. For the Hortons, ensuring the farm runs smoothly, supporting their employees and managing stock is top of mind.

“Over many years we had invested almost entirely into Dairy farming and were at a stage of considering either growing our farming business or investing in something else,” says Jacob.

“It was a passing encounter back in 2017 with our neighbour, Craig, a friend of many years who mentioned his investments in commercial property through PMG’s managed funds, and that sparked our interest.”

After a few more over-the-fence conversations and plenty of research, Jacob and Sheree plucked up the courage and made a considerable investment in PMG Pacific Property Fund Limited (PPF).

Diversified investment

“We were cautious about investing off the farm, but we soon started to see the benefits of our investment in the Fund and what to expect. This compelled us to increase our investment with the PPF fund over time,” says Jacob.

Jacob and Sheree also took the opportunity to make a significant investment in the PMG Generation Fund when it launched in 2020.

“We have found the consistent and reliable returns from our investment in PMG funds to be totally dependable in comparison to farming, which can vary considerably from year to year,” says Jacob.

“We have total confidence in the management of the PMG commercial property funds we are invested in. Virtually none of our time or energy is required to manage this investment yet it gives us our largest source of income. We also find further comfort in the diversity of properties and spread across sectors and regions that the investment offers.

Financial confidence

“The returns and capital growth from our investment in the funds give us the financial confidence to enjoy a more relaxed lifestyle than a large farming business with all its risks and hassles could offer.

“We have the time and tools to do more of what we enjoy other than working. This includes time off the farm at the beach with the family or enjoying outdoor activities like mountain biking, motorcycles and water sports.

“With our advice, our eldest son has also invested his savings in PMG Generation Fund to start his own investment portfolio.”

Long-term growth

Matt McHardy, General Manager Investor Relationships has been pleased to support Jacob and Sheree throughout their investment journey at PMG and to see the returns on their portfolio.

“At PMG, we want to support our investors throughout their investment decisions, help them feel secure and build their trust in us to grow their wealth and financial freedom,” says Matt.

“Since the start of their investment with PMG in 2017, Jacob and Sheree’s portfolio has paid them an average of 6.31 per cent cash and provided them with an average 15.18 per cent unrealised capital growth.

“We’re proud to have partnered with Jacob and Sheree over the last five years and we look forward to helping them succeed in the years ahead.”
